A grounding, cleansing ceremony with Nicotiana rustica (Mapacho) — the master plant of the Amazon — with icaros, chakapa and proper time to integrate.
Tobacco as medicine
In the Amazon, Nicotiana rustica — Mapacho — is regarded as one of the most powerful plant medicines, and it is very different from the tobacco in commercial cigarettes. It contains no added chemicals. Traditionally it is used to cleanse, ground and protect, and to bring the mind into stillness. Unlike the visionary plant medicines, Mapacho is not hallucinogenic — its work is grounding and clearing rather than psychedelic.
The ceremony
A ceremony has real care and structure behind it. It can include the drinking and insufflation of the medicine, chakapa (leaf-rattle) work, rapéh, and icaros — the medicine songs that guide the process. There are consultations before and after, and time to rest and integrate. Ceremonies run at La Tierra Curativa, our permaculture property in a lush valley at Ourimbah on the Central Coast, with the option to stay overnight, and also in Gold Coast and Sydney.

- Participants must be 18 or over.
- Not suitable for people with high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease.
- If you have experienced chest pain, an ECG may be required before participating.
- A minimum 3-week wait is required after an mRNA vaccination.
- All participants complete a screening conversation before a ceremony is confirmed.

No. Mapacho (Nicotiana rustica) is a grounding, cleansing medicine, not a visionary or hallucinogenic one. Its work is to clear, ground and still the mind.

Can I stay overnight?
